Dear Members of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and the Atlanta City Council,

We, the undersigned, express our deep concern and demand justice for J. Wesley Day, who has been subjected to a grave injustice at the hands of the Fulton County justice system. His case is emblematic of systemic issues within the system, and it is imperative to address these issues to ensure fairness and justice for all citizens of Fulton County.

J. Wesley Day has provided detailed evidence highlighting the injustices he has faced since the unfortunate incident at the Joy Stick Game Bar on November 20, 2018. Despite being the victim of a near-fatal attack based on his perceived sexual orientation, Mr. Day has faced unwarranted charges (affray) that were later upgraded to a felony by solicitor general, Keith Gammage. However, Mr. Gammage dismissed the charges against the primary assailant, Charles Huggins.

The most recent development involves the potential dismissal of charges against another assailant, William Nashon Scott. Despite Mr. Day's efforts to cooperate with the assistant district attorney, Francisco Marquez, he is faced with baseless allegations of extortion, putting the pursuit of justice at risk.

We, the undersigned, request the following:

Judicial Review: We urge Judge Craig Schwall to thoroughly review the evidence and circ*mstances surrounding J. Wesley Day's case and refrain from dismissing the charges against William Nashon Scott.

District Attorney's Accountability: We call upon Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to ensure a fair and unbiased investigation into the allegations of extortion and to reconsider the dismissal of charges against Mr. Scott.

Transparency and Fairness: We request that the Fulton County justice system uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness, ensuring that no individual faces discrimination or unjust treatment based on their sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Public Hearing:We support J. Wesley Day's request to address the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and the Atlanta City Council during the next public comment sessions to bring attention to the systemic issues within the Fulton County justice system.

The undersigned stand united in our call for justice and accountability. By addressing the concerns raised by Mr. Day, we can contribute to building a justice system that serves the best interests of all citizens in Fulton County.

Mr. Gammage, we have serious concerns regarding handling Je' Wesley's case by your office, and we implore you to take the necessary measures to rectify any issues promptly. It is crucial to prevent another individual, especially a Black man, from enduring the unjust circ*mstances that Je' Wesley has faced under your jurisdiction.

The decisions made by your office have had severe consequences for Je' Wesley. He lost his dream job with Delta Air Lines and had to withdraw his son from the University of Wisconsin due to financial constraints caused by the turmoil surrounding his case. Such outcomes are deeply troubling and highlight the need for a fair and transparent legal process.

As a representative of the justice system in Fulton County, the solicitor general plays a pivotal role in upholding the principles of fairness and transparency. Open communication and collaboration with the community are essential to bridge gaps in understanding and contribute to a legal system that is effective and perceived as just by all residents.

Je' Wesley, despite being mentally exhausted from the protracted fight for justice, remains resilient. Seeking support and encouragement, he reached out to his then-pastor, fraternity brother, and senator, Raphael Warnock, around the time of his near-fatal attack in 2018. Unfortunately, Rev. Warnock not only refused to pray for Je' Wesley but also made disparaging remarks, inferring falsehoods and comparing him to Jussie Smollett. The subsequent removal from the food pantry line and the discouraging words further exacerbated an already distressing situation.

Je' Wesley's community contributions and extensive involvement in various organizations exemplify his commitment to civic engagement. His unfortunate experiences should not overshadow the positive impact he has made and continues to make within the community.

We, the undersigned, urge you to consider these concerns seriously, address any issues within your office, and ensure that justice is served for Je' Wesley. Your actions have far-reaching consequences, not only for him but for the community as a whole. We believe in the justice system's importance of fairness and accountability and trust that you will take the appropriate steps to rectify this situation.

P.S. - Who Is Jermaine Wesley Day (aka Je' Wesley)?

Before his 2018 attack, Je' Wesley was very civically engaged in the community. He was active with multiple local organizations, such as Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists (AABJ), the Atlanta Black Chambers (ABC), the National Black MBA of Atlanta (NBMBAA), the National Association of African Americans in HR of Atlanta (NAAAHR) and the founder of the Atlanta Nightlife Alliance, to name a few.

The current Mayor, Andre Dickens, stole his concept by creating the Atlanta Nightlife Task Force after Je' Wesley met with him individually and several other councilmen one-on-one (Farokhi, Hillis, and Westmoreland). Je' Wesley provided them with an actual blueprint in the form of a brochure that was created by the original Nightlife Alliance. However, Mayor Dickens did not tap Je' Wesley as part of that task force.

Je' Wesley was in gifted programs in elementary school and skipped the 7th grade. He often attended church alone, walking a half mile to the Prince of Peace Sanctified Missionary Baptist Church on the West Side of Chicago. Here is where he found his love for journalism as Je' was personally selected to read obituaries at funerals and church announcements and be part of the church telecast and broadcast team.

In high school, Je' Wesley was junior class president, senior class president, and the elected student representative for the Local School Council for William Howard Taft, located on the far north side.

Je' Wesley was president of the NAACP Branch 3872 and the local undergraduate chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated (A Phi A) while in College at Northern Illinois University and earning a double bachelor's in Criminology and Communications. He became his fraternity's Assistant District Director of Illinois, where he won statewide competitions for the Brother of the Year and Oratorical.

Post-college, at the ripe age of 21, Je' Wesley became the block club president for the 5200 block of West Quincy, where he was born and raised. Je' Wesley set on a quick path of politics, hailing as the president of the Young Democrats of Illinois at the helm of Congressman Danny K. Davis and president of the local graduate chapter of A Phi A in DeKalb, Illinois.

In mid-life, Je' Wesley earned two master's degrees (an MBA in Marketing and a second in Human Resources Management). His educational background allowed him to work for Fortune 500 companies in leadership roles such as the Northeast Regional Marketing and Sales Director of L'Oreal USA - Luxury Products Division and General Manager of Sales and Merchandising for Coca-Cola (See his attached resume on LinkedIn at Je' Wesley's LinkedIn ). Not to mention, Je' Wesley once owned a restaurant (OrganiX), currently known as Boogaloo, where he permitted social organizations to host events without any charge.

Sincerely,

Citizens Stand with Je'
